A rabbit's dietary needs are more complex than you may think. When it comes to food, much like us humans, rabbits need a balanced diet to stay in good shape. I am Linda Winter, the owner of Meadows Animal Feeds, Stoke-on-Trent. If you're a first-time rabbit owner and are a little unsure about what to feed your new companion, here's a little information you may find helpful:
The majority of your rabbit's diet should consist of hay. Good quality hay is high in fibre, which can help to regulate digestion. What's more, the chewing required to eat the hay will wear down your rabbit's teeth, helping to avoid overgrowth. Your rabbit may also enjoy fresh vegetables such as carrots, celery and watercress. Their diet can be supplemented with a dry food, however it's important not to rely too much on food of this type. If their diet is too 'dry', your rabbit may develop problems with their teeth. With the right balance however, your rabbit should lead a long, happy and healthy life!
